Done deal, now the race is on!

OK, I'm starting my new job on Monday, July 14, so I think I'll be leaving Wednesday the 9th or early the 10th. It'll take me a day or two to get down there, plus I have to go in to the new office on Friday for a quick check-in with H/R...because I'm flying to Cleveland on my first day of work!!

So, I'm thinking I'll plant myself at The Anchor on the night of Tuesday, July 8, and anyone who can come by to say "farewell," please do!!

Or, if you want to stop by the house and help me pack, paint, put in flooring, or stop by the garage sale on Saturday the 5th, I'll be here! 1642 N. Hood

I won't blame you if you opt for the bar visit instead of the house. But if you need a good fridge, microwave, couch, queen size canopy bed frame, retro dinette set, or just love to hit garage sales, come by next Saturday!!

And the winner is (brain drain starting now)...

Houston! Well, that's of course assuming the agreement I get in writing is as good as the verbal offer. The job is Market Manager, with roles in both publishing and online, focused on marketing strategy and market/customer relations after the sale. I'll have a huge range of projects, which will keep the job challenging. And of course, the VP had to reiterate that this is the position she started in, just a handful of years ago. She said if I'm a hard worker, I'll advance and the pay will follow.

SWEET! The MBA is paying off. Just not in Wichita [Brain Drain!]. Can I do a presentation for the city leaders? PLEASE?!?

I'll let you know what date I pick to start, it'll either be immediately or in a few weeks (probably the latter, still gotta finish the house to put it on the market).

And I'll let you know my new address, so you can come visit! Austin and San Antonio are just a couple of hours away!

The Difference a Day Makes...

KC Schmacy - I totally dug Houston! Or at least the Northern part I visited, The Woodlands. And the job seems really good for me: marketing manager, but versatile duties to allow me to figure out what suits me best and can benefit the company. There's a lot of space to maneuver there. And I should expect a lot of growth. The work environment was really good too. Open, blunt communication and accepted criticism to move an idea forward. And a lot of jokers.

I was told I'd hear something very soon, the final word just has to come down from the CEO. Good vibes, people...send good vibes!

One down, one to go...

No, I'm not referring to drinks. However, a good marg is necessary post interview, either in celebration or regret. This marg was al fresco on the Plaza in KC. The interview went well, he said he was impressed. I am quickly, however, learning about salary negotiation. He kinda low-balled me on the original salary range, so I renegotiated. We'll see if I'm still a finalist after that in another week or so.

On to the next interview...fly out to Houston at 6:30am in the morning! OY. I just drove all day, what was I thinking?!

Two out-of-town interviews next week!

As of Wednesday of this week, I had expected to hear from a Kansas City prospect about a second interview as a finalist, including an in-office visit. The day came and went, and instead I heard from a Houston prospect who wants me to come down for an interview! Then at the end of today, two days later, I heard from KC. I'm going there, too!

Wicked.

Wish me luck!

Back to painting the rest of the house. BTW, I found a color of paint very close to the one I had planned to have made in the "oops" bin at Lowes for $5!! Is it my day, OR WHAT?! Now where's that beer fairy...

Will I stay or will I go? And will this blog prosper?

Oh, for cryin' out loud..I'm not typically the type to broadcast my thoughts or daily 'doings' into the public domain, but I'm following suit of my peers for a simple reason. I'm quickly giving up my stronghold on Wichita livin' (I'll likely find a better job elsewhere), and am preparing to move to another city soon. SO, here is an attempt at self-training of more open communication. If I do move, everyone will get to watch my new life unfold. That is, if I can possibly come up with anything worth viewing! Time will tell...
